HOW IT CAME TO BE

Australia produces some of the best wines in the world. Our wine growing regions are vast and each has its own particular characteristics and strengths, making Australian wines much sought after around the globe.

1882 Wines is based in the wine growing region of the Clare Valley in South Australia. With its cool climate and varied soil conditions, the Clare Valley produces some of the best Rieslings in the world and is the home of our multi-regional Gryphon Brewing 1882 Wine label.

Centred around a sprawling homestead on 500 acres of land,  our wine company truly showcases Australia in every bottle. So while our Riesling comes from vines in our backyard, our Sparkling Pinot Chardonnay is from the cool flats of Padthaway, the Sauvignon Blanc is from the lofty heights of the Adelaide Hills, the Cabernet Sauvignon  from farther afield in the Coonawarra Region, our Shiraz from the world famous McLaren Vale region,  and finally,  the Pinot Noir is from another State in Australia altogether and sourced from the Yarra Valley Region.

Our Homestead was built in 1882 and is the inspiration for our company name. It is a special place that epitomizes the Australian spirit and lifestyle. We don’t have a traditional cellar door approach, but we have built 1882 Wines around a different concept – with 1882 Wines you can taste Australia’s best varieties from Australia’s best wine producing regions, all based around the magnificent cornerstone property.
